BroadVision to launch greater China operations hub in Taiwan

December 27, 2001 11:08pm

12/28/2001

Taipei, Dec. 28, 2001 (CENS)--E-commerce provider BroadVision Inc. will base its Greater China operations in Taiwan in 2002 after the island joins the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to company president and CEO Pehong Chen

The company estimated that sales to the region, which includes Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, would grow by 30% in 2002

Advertisement: Explore Within This Space

The Nasdaq-listed BroadVision is one of the few profitable e-commerce solution providers in the world. The company enjoyed a fourfold growth in revenue in 2001, making it one of the world's 40 largest enterprises

"Despite the world economic slowdown, especially in the Internet industry, our global revenue will reach US$300 million this year," Chen said. "Revenue from Northeast Asia, including Taiwan, is expected to reach US$50 million this year." Chen said the entry of Taiwan and mainland China into the WTO will boost the e-commerce business opportunities of the Greater China market. He also noted that Taiwan's highly-trained technicians would be able to fully support the e-commerce solution demands of mainland China and Hong Kong

In 2001, BroadVision halved its global workforce to 1,100, including 100 in the Asia-Pacific region, amid sagging demand.

Companies to Watch 2002: ARBA, BVSN, ITWO, ORCL...

31.12.01 12:17
Companies to Watch 2002
These companies will be increasingly important contributors to the intelligent enterprise this year

COLLABORATIVE COMMERCE
Ariba Inc.
Founded: 1996
HQ: Sunnyvale, Calif.
President, Director & CEO: Robert M. Calderoni

Although its failed acquisition of Agile Software kept Ariba from reciprocating i2's advance into Ariba's traditional domain of indirect procurement, the company has steadily built its customer base for its procurement software and exchange platform, recently winning big customers such as the AMEX e-procurement exchange and Home Depot.

Blue Martini Software Inc.
Founded: 1998
HQ: San Mateo, Calif.
Chairman, President & CEO: Monte Zweben

Despite its share of hardships in 2001, Blue Martini remains among the top customer interaction software providers in the world. Stressing personalized self-service, the Blue Martini suite addresses several verticals and all phases of the product life cycle. Blue Martini concluded Q3 by inking a SAS partnership that will bolster its analytic capabilities.

BroadVision Inc.
Founded: 1993
HQ: Redwood City, Calif.
Chairman, President & CEO: Pehong Chen

There may be no greater endorsement in the post-September 11 era than the one BroadVision received in October, when the U.S. Air Force chose InfoExchange Portal to serve information to approximately 1.2 million personnel, uniting information from hundreds of legacy databases and applications.

Camstar Inc.
Founded: 1984
HQ: Campbell, Calif.
President & CEO: Dave Cone

In 2001, Camstar began releasing its Windows-centric Virtual Factory Suite (VFS), with a broader sweep of capabilities built around the core InSite product, renamed InSite Live. VFS gives customers, management, and plant managers excellent visibility and control over in-process orders.

Documentum Inc.
Founded: 1990
HQ: Pleasanton, Calif.
CEO: David DeWalt

The meaning of "content management" is made dull and unimpressive by competitors who provide little more than file management and version control. Documentum's emphasis on unifying cross-enterprise business processes and rules brings a deeper dimension to collaboration: the infusion of greater business goals into everyday, nitty-gritty business tasks and communications.

E.piphany Inc.
Founded: 1996
HQ: San Mateo, Calif.
President & CEO: Roger Siboni

Adding to E.piphany's earlier trailblazing in embedded CRM analytics is a new focus on helping enterprises present a unified face to the customer - creating "holistic CRM." Enterprises want to protect customers from exposure to what ugly, chimerical beasts they often are. E.piphany's partnership with Cisco should make deep integration of the enterprise's unwieldy parts easier to accomplish, in some respects.

i2 Technologies Inc.
Founded: 1988
HQ: Dallas
CEO: Gregory A. Brady

The announcement of i2 Five. Two included several inspiring new features. Among these was the unique Distributed Order Management module, which addresses the reality that manufacturing orders aren't typically executed and delivered from one plant owned by one company.

Manugistics Group Inc.
Founded: 1986
HQ: Rockville, Md.
Chairman & CEO: Gregory J. Owens

Classified by Aberdeen as a "collaborative product commerce" provider, a new and heralded designation, Manugistics has an ambitious value proposition. It promises to get to the heart of your goals - "enterprise profit optimization" - by coordinating demand-side and supply-side processes, keeping your contact with the inventory hot potato to a minimum.

Oracle Corp.
Founded: 1977
HQ: Redwood Shores, Calif.
Chairman & CEO: Lawrence J. Ellison

Recognizing Oracle for its flagship RDBMS would be the obvious thing to do, but the company deserves credit for moving its applications beyond their ERP origins into the realm of collaborative commerce (or "ERP II," as Gartner calls it) with 11i E-Business Suite. Although 11i failed to spark long-term revenue growth as Oracle had hoped, its comprehensiveness and strong supply chain management functionality (SCM) stand out from the crowd.

Peregrine Systems Inc.
Founded: 1981
HQ: San Diego
Chairman & CEO: Steve Gardner

Acquisitions brought Peregrine into the collaborative commerce space, but the company arrived in style. Peregrine's quick implementation times and ROI are credited for its salmonlike swim up the revenue stream (while most other software vendors' revenues tumbled).

SeeCommerce
Founded: 1996, name changed in 2000
HQ: Palo Alto, Calif.
Chairman, President & CEO: Paul Albright

SeeChain, SeeCommerce's flagship product, is an evocative name for what the software accomplishes. With vivid visualization techniques, analytics, and exception reporting to keep all your supply chain ducks in a row, SeeCommerce continues to stay ahead of the curve by adding features such as financial impact analysis of supply chain events and decisions.

Syncra Systems Inc.
Founded: 1998
HQ: Waltham, Mass.
CEO: Jeff Stamen

Employing the slightly stodgy acronym CPFR (collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment), Syncra is no less relevant than other SCM vendors when it comes to the bottom line. And Syncra's Internet-hosted model makes it more accessible to nonmanufacturing companies, which have increased SCM spending.

Kurz Update.
