YeePay Partners with China Unicom to Promote Mobile Top-up Service
YeePay has announced it has partnered with China Unicom, the nation's second largest mobile operator, to promote mobile top-up service in Beijing, adding support for two more banks and launching online service for mobile top-up.
Mobile top-up service allows users to pay for their mobile bills using bank cards electronically. A user registers for the service by assigning his or her mobile account with a bank card; to use the service, the user dials the mobile operator's toll-free top-up line and selects bank card payment in the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) menu, and pay for the bill with the assigned bank card directly. Previously, mobile service subscribers (post paid users) have to pay for their mobile bills at bank counters every month, which is very inconvenient. In China the majority of the mobile users are prepaid users, for them top-up is even a bigger hassle. Prepaid users need to buy prepaid scratch cards at grocery stores or newsstands, then dial the mobile operator's top-up line, type-in the PIN number on the scratch card to recharge their mobile account. Many prepaid users find themselves having nowhere to buy a prepaid card when running out of airtime after business hours. Manufacturing and distributing prepaid cards through traditional channels also incur high costs for mobile operators. YeePay's service enables both prepaid and postpaid users to top-up and pay their mobile phone bills conveniently, and reduces costs for mobile operators to collect bill payments.
YeePay first launched the mobile top-up service with China Unicom in Beijing last June, with only one bank at the time -- the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Now YeePay has added support for two more banks -- China Merchant Bank and Bank of Beijing, providing more coverage for bank cards. YeePay has integrated its service with China Unicom's top-up line -- 96533. Users can dial this line to top-up their mobile accounts any time anywhere.
YeePay has also launched an online channel that enables users to pay for their mobile bills on the internet by using bank card online payment. To top- up a mobile account, the user simply needs to enter a mobile phone number, a bank card number and a password at YeePay's website.
YeePay's new promotion is just in time for the Chinese New Year, which is on February 18th this year. Traditionally this is the peak of mobile phone usage every year when people call friends and family to greet each other happy new year. YeePay expects an accelerated adoption of its mobile top-up service because of the Chinese New Year.
