"Dear Mr. Heijckmann,
We follow up your inquiry and hereby wish to provide the following clarifications in relation to the New York
Times story that was published on the 8th of January 2021 regarding the solar industry and claims that some
Chinese companies involved in that space are associated with worker transfer schemes and forced labor
practices.
The story cites a yet-to-be published paper from a consulting firm, which says, based on its interpretation of
publicly available Chinese-language government documents and media reports, that the operations of several
solar companies in China bear potential signs of using forced labor. The New York Times acknowledged the
weakness in the paper, noting that “many details remain unclear” and that the consultants did “not provide
any direct testimony of forced labor”.
Any conclusion from these interpretations that Jinko Solar is engaged in forced labor in any way is false and
misleading.
When approached recently by the New York Times reporter for comment about the specific claims being made
about Jinko’s involvement, we immediately requested independent, third-party, human rights experts to
review the issues. After these experts reviewed the matter, we provided this statement to the New York Times,
of which the reporter used just a small portion.
“As previously stated, Jinko strongly condemns the use of forced labor and does not engage in it in its hiring
practices or workplace operations. The company has reviewed the three claims and found that they do not
demonstrate forced labor in our facilities; in fact, one does not even mention Jinko. To the contrary, Jinko has
a strong track record of industry-leading workplace practices, which include employment at will,
standardized premium pay, benefits and scheduled leave for all employees at our factories.”
Jinko Solar is fully committed to conducting business in a lawful and ethical manner, including engaging with
suppliers who also respect human rights, providing safe and inclusive workplaces, and promoting a
sustainable future. We value the partnerships we have built with each of you and are always available to
answer any questions you may have.
Sincerely Yours,
JinkoSolar GmbH"
