Fonix Announces 2004 Results -- Addition of Telecom Subsidiary Drives Revenues to $15M; Speech Applications Continue to Gain Traction across Multiple Markets
SALT LAKE CITY, Mar 30, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Fonix Corp. (OTCBB: FNIX), an
integrated communications carrier providing telecommunications services and
value-added speech technologies, today released financial results for the year
ended Dec. 31, 2004.
Telecommunications operations included in the financial report are for the
10-month period beginning with the acquisition of LecStar Telecom Inc.,
effective March 1, 2004, and operations for The Fonix Speech Group are for the
entire calendar year ended Dec. 31, 2004.
Fonix revenues were $14,902,000 for the year ended Dec. 31, 2004 compared to
$2,384,000 in 2003. Operating expenses were $22,106,000, of which $13,051,000
was cash used in operating activities. Net loss was $15,148,000 ($0.21 per
common share) in 2004 compared to a net loss of $13,543,000 ($0.50 per common
share) in 2003.
Consolidated pro forma Fonix revenue, including LecStar revenue as if for the
entire calendar year ended Dec. 31, 2004, was $18,006,000 compared to
$18,243,000 for the 12-month period ended Dec. 31, 2003. Pro forma net loss was
$16,648,000 ($0.18 per common share) compared to $22,323,000 ($0.70 per common
share) in 2003.

subsidiaries, LecStar Telecom Inc., an Atlanta-based competitive local exchange

Inc., a privately held company based in Brooklyn, N.Y., which provides
facility-based local and long distance phone services and Internet services to

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) product for small to medium-sized business
