We wish that 2013 will bring you many good surprises.
Yes, many good surprises, which is what you certainly need when the whole General Aviation industry lives through such interesting times.
But why this photograph? Because we received a press release from Centurion Aircraft Engines (Thielert aero diesel), in which it is reminded that this Piper PA28 was the first to fly with a Thielert engine, in Spring 2001. Since then we read that 3,500 engines of 1.7 or 2 Liters were delivered and installed on 2,600 aircraft (Diamond DA 40 and 42, Cessna 172, Piper PA28, and more recently Robin DR400 Ecoflyer). They total now 3.5 million flying hours.
Keep sending us news of your own diesel airplane and tell us about your experience, and do not forget a photograph. We will go on telling the saga of how the diesel engine is coming back to aviation after being absent for almost 70 years, and how the come back is gaining momentum. We also look for stories from flight academies and FBOs operating fleets, and from R&D teams preparing new concepts. We now have close to 1,600 subscribers in 77 countries. 155 of them represent manufacturers of aircraft, engines and components of more than 100 employees, a list now including the Ghota of General Aviation.
