240,000 subscribers were added this quarter, 2.7 times the amount from the previous quarter
About 240,000 subscribers were added this quarter, 2.7 times the amount from the previous quarter. The churn rate -- the annual percentage rate at which customers stop subscribing to a service -- is at 2.4%, down from nearly 8% in June last year.
Rakuten had 4.91 million subscribers as of late July, according to preliminary numbers released Thursday. The sum is up by 100,000 contracts from late June.
The count is still short of the roughly 5 million subscriber peak recorded in April 2022, but the company will be able to hit that number "in the next one to two weeks," said Chairman, President and CEO Hiroshi Mikitani.
Rakuten stated a new goal of serving between 8 million to 10 million subscribers, with the average revenue per user targeted at 2,500 yen to 3,000 yen a month, up from the current 2,100 yen.
