Die Fortschritte in den letzten 30 Jahren waren mW nicht besonders wirkungsvoll. Anders sieht es aus mit dem neuen horizontalen Multifrac Verfahren, das gerade in der letzten Zeit verstärkt verwendet und perfektioniert wird. Damit sind wirklich höhere Ausbeuten zu erreichen. Allerdings ist es wesentlich teurer als vertikales Bohren.

Was die Gigavorkommen anbelangt sind wir nicht unterschiedlicher Auffassung.

Mit LNG habe ich mich sogar sehr intensiv beschäftigt. vgl. mal http://www.ariva.de/...veraenderungen_t308214?pnr=6392925#jump6392925 und die vier folgenden Beiträge von mir, wo ich versucht habe eine Analyse des Gasmarktes vorzunehmen. Übrigens ist der größte LNG Produzent nicht Oman sondern Katar.

"Was ich in Betrachtungen sehr oft vermisse ist die Unterscheidung zwischen Vorkommen und ausbeutbaren Vorkommen (recoverable reserves). Ich hatte vor ein paar Tagen über das Bakkengebiet in Kanada berichtet. Einer der beiden domnierenden Player dort ist die neue Firma Petrobakken. Während andere Unternehmen in diesem Gebiet ca. 12% des Öls aus der Erde herausholen können. Haben die Ingenieure dieser Firma (bzw die von Petrobank dem größten Shareholder) ein Verfahren entwickelt, das 22% des Öls aus dem Boden holt.

Es kann sich dabei jedenfalls um kein konventionelles Ölfeld handeln, denn solche haben deutlich höhere Ausbeutungsgrade als 12 %.

Das ist eben immer lustig, wenn man von einer 100 %igen Steigerung hört - der Ausgangspunkt wird nicht dazu gesagt.

Damit erübrigt sich das Thema für mich, denn dabei handelt es sich um kein konventionelles Ölfeld. Dass die beträge von unkonventionellen Quellen zum Gesamtfördervolumen zunehmen, ist klar, aber eben nur langsam und sehr teuer.

führt in erster Linie zu einer SCHNELLEREN Ausbeutung eines Ölfeldes, wenn der Zenit des Ölfeldes bereits überschritten ist. Am Ausbeutungsgrad insgesamt ändert es wenig. Oft führt es sogar zu irreparabeln Schäden, unter denen Ausbeutungsgrad des Feldes sogar leidet.

PS: Ich habe nie behauptet, dass  Oman der größte LNG Produzent ist.  An meine Ausführungen zum Thema Transport, Logistik und Infrastruktur ändert es nichts, dass Qatar der grösste LNG produzent ist.

die Diskussion nicht alleine nur auf Öl beschränken, sondern alle Energieträger mit einbeziehen, dann könnte man eher erkennen wann Peak Öl eintrifft, oder auch nicht!

BP-Chef: Zugang zu Ölvorkommen politisch versperrt

LONDON, 20. Oktober (RIA Novosti). Der fehlende Zugang zu neuen Bodenschätzen bereitet in den kommenden Jahrzehnten die meisten Schwierigkeiten für das Wachstum der weltweiten Erdölindustrie.

Das sagte der Chef des britischen Mineralölkonzerns British Petrol, Tony Hayward, am Dienstag bei der zweitägigen Konferenz "Oil & Money" in London.

"Die Ölförderung in den existierenden Vorkommen nimmt ab, obwohl die Nachfrage weiter wächst. Es könnten aber zusätzlich täglich 50 Millionen Barrel aus neu erschlossenen Vorkommen gewonnen werden. Das ist doppelt so viel wie zurzeit im ganzen Nahen Osten. Das ist aber kein geologisches Problem, sondern ein politisches", sagte Hayward.

Ihm zufolge stehen etwa 80 Prozent der neu entdeckten Vorkommen Staaten zur Verfügung, die den Zugang für globale Energiekonzerne einschränken.

"Deswegen erwarten wir, dass die Regierungen dieser Länder doch einen stabilen und sicheren Zugang zu diesen Bodenschätzen gewährleisten werden. Sobald wir sehen, dass die Bedingungen sich normalisieren, werden wir darin investieren", sagte Hayward.

Darin wird auch klar, dass es sich beim "Bakken-Öl" - um ein sehr spezifisches Vorkommen handelt:

"Das „Bakken“-Ölvorkommen ist keine eigentliche Neuentdeckung. Es ist der Ölindustrie seit über zwanzig Jahren bekannt, konnte aber wegen der sehr geringen Dicke der Öl führenden Gesteinsschichten mit den herkömmlichen vertikalen Bohrtechniken bisher nur in geringem Umfang erschlossen werden.  Unter anderem erhofft man sich durch die Einführung und Weiterentwicklung der horizontalen Bohrtechnik ("horizontal directional drilling") einen wirtschaftlich rentablen Abbau der Ölreserven des Williston Beckens. Die Reserven werden in einer von der amerikanischen Regierung veröffentlichten Studie auf 503 Billionen Barrel Öl geschätzt."

Da kann ich mir schon vorstellen, dass man mit horizonatellem Bohren den geologisch bedingten sehr geringen Ausbeutungsgrad von 12 % (WEIT UNTER dem Ausbeutungsgrad von "konventionellen" Ölfeldern)  um fast 100 % steigern kann. Aber selbst MIT dieser Steigerung schafft man eben kaum die Hälfte von konventionellen Ölfeldern. Dass dieses Öl aus den kanadischen Bakken um ein VIELFACHES teuerer ist als aus Nahost, ist daher selbstredend. Schätze mal grob 50 USD aufwärts ? Kommt natürlich auch auf das Gesamtvolumen an.

Richtig, Bakken ist keine Badewanne, sondern eine (sehr große) aber flache Pfütze. Trotzdem zählt es zu den "conventional oil plays". Gestern habe ich das Zeichnungsangebot für die Kapitalerhöhung von Glamis Resources erhalten. Das ist der Drittgrößte im Bakkengebiet. Die geben einen Operating Net Back von $50,23 pro BOE bei einem Ölpreis von $70 an.

Wenn die Weltwirtschaft an Fahrt gewinnt, legt überproportional auch der Ölpreis kräftig zu. Am Montag erreichte der Ölpreis er ein neues Jahreshoch. Öl ist Schmiermittel der Weltwirtschaft und kein Unternehmen kommt ohne den Rohstoff aus. Gewinnt die Konjunktur an Fahrt, steigt die Öl-Nachfrage, was preistreibend wirkt. Im Juli letzten Jahres erreichte der Preis für ein Barrel ein Rekordhoch von 147 Dollar, fiel aber innerhalb weniger Monate auf 35 Dollar zurück, als die Wirtschaft global einbrach. Der Ölpreis ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Inflationsrate. Ein Einstieg dient somit gleichzeitig dem Inflationsschutz. Partizipieren kann man an einer Konjunkturbelebung mit einem ETF auf Öl und Gas (gekoppelt) wie dem thesaurierenden iShares DJ STOXX 600 Oil & Gas Swap ( ISIN DE000A0F5T77 – WKN A0F5T7 ).

Öl gehört für mich zu einem gut diversifizierten Depot.

seit jahren waren die besten Einstiege Ende Jänner bzw. Februar.

Ich würde daher zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt nicht einsteigen, sondern auch heuer wieder diesen Zeitpunkt anvisieren. Ich hatte  Jahr eine heftige Diskussion mit Hartmut, dem angeblichen ölhändler diesbezüglich.

Ein einstieg wäre auch im Jahre 2009 zu diesem Zeitpunkt (Ende jan/Feb) ideal gewesen  - sicher heuer zusätzlich noch bedingt durch die allgemeine Panik  zu diesem Zeitpunk.

Da stimme ich voll zu. Jetzt in den Ölmarkt zu investieren, wäre aus meiner Sicht der schlechteste Zeitpunkt. Die Fundamentals sind einfach zu schlecht, auch wenn die allgemeine Stimmung die Futures noch ein wenig nach oben tragen dürfte.

US-Öllagerbestände geringer als erwartet angestiegen

New York (BoerseGo.de) - Die US-Rohöllagerbestände sind nach Angaben des Energieministeriums der USA in der letzten Woche um 1,3 Millionen Barrel gestiegen. Die Lagerbestände im Bereich der Destillate einschließlich Diesel und Heizöl nahmen um 800.000 Barrel ab. Benzin verzeichnete einen Rückgang von 2,3 Millionen Barrel.

Die Prognosen gingen bei Öl von einem Anstieg von 2,2 Millionen Barrel aus, bei Diesel und Heizöl von einem Rückgang von 1,0 Millionen Barrel und bei Benzin von einem Rückgang von 850.000 Barrel.

Der Preis für ein Barrel Rohöl der US-Sorte West Texas Intermediate (WTI) zur Auslieferung im Dezember steigt aktuell um 0,6 Prozent auf 79,56 Dollar.

An Update on Peak Oil (Yes, It’s Still a Problem)

Marcio Mello, the former explorationist from Petrobras (PBR: NYSE) and now independent petroleum consultant, electrified the Denver meeting of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas (ASPO).

In a riveting talk that lasted well over an hour, Marcio detailed the immense petroleum potential of offshore Brazil, as well as the Amazon Basin. If Marcio’s estimates are correct, Brazil may be the location of near 200 billion barrels of additional petroleum resources. That’s well within the range of current resource estimates for Saudi Arabia.

For good measure, Marcio described the petroleum potential of offshore West Africa — another 130 billion barrels — as well as the Congo region, with 50 billion barrels or more.

Finally, Marcio described the “unknown potential of the US back yard, the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).” Marcio offered remarkable insight into the deep regions of the GOM, 100 miles and more offshore Texas and Louisiana. He showed early work he performed on a number of GOM areas, including the site of BP’s (BP: NYSE) recent billion-plus barrel find at the Tiber site.

It was clear from the reaction of many in the ASPO audience that Marcio hit nerves. If his analyses of the South American, African and GOM petroleum systems are right, then in the future the world has access to much more conventional oil than people previously believed. But it’s not the same as saying the nothing has to change in modern habits of energy use. Getting this oil will require a trillion-dollar level of offshore, deepwater investment. It’s a 50 to 100 year project.

The new thinking about deep petroleum systems may allow the world’s energy thinkers to back off from raw geologic concerns about the wheres and how-muches of resources. But like a game of “whack-a-mole,” the reduced worry about geology now translates into a new emphasis on exploration and development technology, as well as capital, skilled personnel, political issues, environmental safety and climate alteration.

In the past 20 years, Marcio has pioneered the idea of detailed geochemical analysis of “petroleum systems” in the Southern Hemisphere. The goal of the work is to identify and locate deply buried oil-bearing zones. Marcio’s work led directly to dozens of oil finds by Petrobras, both onshore and offshore. His work has also led to significant oil finds in the Caribbean region, Colombia and Peru.

Some Bad News

After Marcio Mello offered his ebullient view of future oil supplies in the world’s deep waters, the next day was a return to earth for the assembled throng at the Denver meeting of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas. The day was filled with well-informed viewpoints on the looming issues of energy scarcity in a capital-constrained world. Among other things...

Geologist Art Berman offered a decidedly negative view of the latest “big thing,” which is obtaining large volumes of natural gas from tight shales. In a comprehensive review of production and flow rates from several thousand wells drilled in the past decade in the Barnett Shale of Texas, Mr. Berman has a gloomy forecast.

Looking at a large sampling of Barnett wells, the overall data reveal that initial gas flows decline rapidly. With some wells, the drop-off is as much as 70% in the first year, with further declines of 20% in the second year.

This hardly dovetails with the happy talk about how “shale gas” will supply U.S. energy requirements for the next several decades, if not a couple of centuries. It appears that most Barnett wells are short-term money losers, with a few prolific wells carrying the bulk of capital expenditure. Across the industry, according to Mr. Berman, the whole process stays afloat due to liberal application of borrowed money, as well as dilution of existing shareholders by production companies issuing new stock.

According to Mr. Berman, the picture is not much better in other shale plays, such as the Fayetteville and Haynesville shales. And similar gloomy data are just now starting to come in on the embryonic gas play in the giant Marcellus formation of Pennsylvania.

And Peak Oil Still Looming

Matt Simmons gave another of his famous talks about the specter of Peak Oil. The only things that are changing, according to Mr. Simmons, are that things are getting worse for future energy supplies. It’s difficult to say with specificity how bad things are, because the data are so poor on a worldwide basis.

“Look at what happened with the bad information we had, or didn’t have, with the financial institutions over the past couple of years,” said Mr. Simmons. “With our energy data, it’s worse. We’re in for some shocks that will change our lives in ways that’ll rival Pearl Harbor.”

Expect to see oil at $200 per barrel by the end of 2010, according to Mr. Simmons. Also expect to see net oil exports from Mexico simply vanish within 24 months or less. This will play havoc with U.S. refiners on the Gulf Coast. Mexico has simply delayed for too long its effort to explore, drill and rebuild its fast-depleting oil resources. Mexico is going to have to scramble to salvage something from its looming energy disaster. These die are cast.

Things could go wrong with energy supplies in any of a dozen places, according to Mr. Simmons. For example, there’s a stealth “Twitter revolution” in Iran that’s slowly shutting down that country’s oil production. Shutting down the oil industry was the straw that broke the camel’s back and brought down the Shah in 1979. There’s some thinking that it may work to rid Iran of its mullahs.

In Venezuela, the output of the state oil company PdVSA is declining at alarming rates due to political interference and underinvestment.

In Nigeria, the low-grade civil war could quickly morph into a large-scale civil war.

In Iraq, according to Mr. Simmons, “They’re in the dark about how to rebuild their oil industry.”

And of course, a lucky terrorist shot could take down any of hundreds of major oil installations worldwide, wreaking havoc through the following ripple effect.

Mr. Simmons admires Brazil’s Petrobras, calling it “the finest large oil company in the world today.” But the offshore success of Petrobras will simply not be able to make up for the multitude of other problems with the global energy industry. There won’t be enough oil, and it won’t arrive in time. Longer term, Mr. Simmons expects to see oil at $500-700 per barrel. “People need to understand how expensive it is to obtain oil,” said Mr. Simmons.

Much of the world’s energy infrastructure is old and rusting and will require several trillions of dollars to replace — if it can be replaced. (Is there enough steel, for example? Where will the money come from?) Add the aging work force, within which many new hires were laid off in the past year. There’s a serious lack of skilled talent across the board, and no amount of clever management and automated “expert systems” will make up the difference.

Finally, new technology is coming on line slower than most people anticipated. The deeper, more challenging environments are sucking down technology and money, and yielding less than expected in many cases. According to one study, only eight out of 100 major energy projects came in on time, were within budget and yielded the expected volumes of oil and natural gas. Thus are high costs, delays and reduced cash flows hurting the ability of the energy industry to maintain adequate levels of capitalization.

The stark fact is that oil is going to get a lot more expensive and the bull market in oil will be firmly in place for a long time. Smart investors would take advantage of any corrections or dips to get themselves set for the ride.

Als Ursache des Preisanstiegs gilt die Erholung der Weltwirtschaft. So legte etwa China im dritten Quartal Wirtschaftswachstum von 8,9 Prozent hin. Auch die Aktienkurse haben sich spürbar erholt. Die Bank Barclays schreibt in einer Analyse, daher sei nun der Weg zu höheren Ölpreisen frei.

Analysten wie Achim Wittmann von der Landesbank Baden-Württemberg machen daher für Öl-Aktien durchaus Aufholpotenzial aus. Zumal das Kurs-Gewinn-Verhältnis (KGV) für Titel der Ölmultis derzeit zwischen 12 und 14 liegt und damit deutlich niedriger ausfällt als bei zyklischen Titeln etwa aus der Chemie- und Stahlbranche. So liegt das KGV bei BASF-Aktien mittlerweile bei stolzen 20.

Öl-Aktien verfügen zudem über eine recht hohe Dividendenrendite. Im Falle von BP liegt diese bei erwarteten 6,6 Prozent. Der Konzern bekräftigte am Dienstagmorgen, die Aktionäre sollten unverändert eine Dividende von 14 US-Cent je Anteilsschein erhalten.

Ob und wenn ja, wie stark Öl-Aktien künftig vom anziehenden Ölpreis werden profitieren können, hängt jedoch von der Nachhaltigkeit der Ölpreis-Rally ab. Diese wurde zuletzt vor allem von den steigenden Aktienmärkten und dem schwachen Dollar befeuert. Die Nachfrageseite ist hingegen weiter schwach.

The PIHC performed as expected, allowing us to achieve the necessary injectivity into the reservoir zone. The horizontal wells have temporary downhole pumps which were turned on at low rates to achieve a slight drawdown pressure across the horizontal well prior to air injection. Air injection has been initiated at a rate less than 10% of designed volumes to establish the in-situ combustion zone. Currently, we expect to begin producing through the plant in the next twenty-four hours. Once combustion gas is consistently produced from the horizontal well, we will cease pumping and ramp up air injection to allow the wells to flow. We will then increase air injection rates and oil production volumes are expected to increase concurrently.

This project will highlight the applicability of the THAI(TM) technology in Saskatchewan's conventional heavy oil resource base. We believe that a significant portion of the Province's estimated 20 billion barrels of unrecovered conventional heavy oil resources can be commercialized using THAI(TM). In addition, Saskatchewan is actively encouraging oil and gas development and the application of advanced technologies through an efficient, accountability-based regulatory process and competitive royalty regime.

Resources and Contingent Resources. In this press release, Petrobank has discussed "contingent resources" or "resources". "Resources" are oil and gas volumes that are estimated to have originally existed in the earth's crust as naturally occurring accumulations but are not capable of being classified as "reserves". The following are excerpts from the definition of "contingent resources" as contained in Section 5 of the COGE Handbook, which is referenced by the Canadian Securities Administrators in "National Instrument 51-101 Standards of Disclosure for Oil and Gas Activities". "Contingent resources" are those quantities of petroleum estimated, as of a given date, to be potentially recoverable from known accumulations using established technology or technology under development, but which are not currently considered to be commercially recoverable due to one or more contingencies. Contingencies may include factors such as economic, legal, environmental, political, and regulatory matters, or a lack of markets. It is also appropriate to classify as "contingent resources" the estimated discovered recoverable quantities associated with a project in the early evaluation stage. "Contingent resources" are further classified in accordance with the level of certainty associated with the estimates and may be subclassified based on project maturity and/or characterized by their economic status. "Resources" and "contingent resources" do not constitute, and should not be confused with, reserves.

US-Öllagerbestände überraschend stark gesunken
