SEMAFO is a mining company conducting exploration, development and production activities in West Africa. In 2002, Semafo began producing gold at its Kiniero mine in Guinea and this year, Semafo produced at Kiniero 41,049 ounces of gold at an operating cash cost of $283. In Niger, the Samira mine began its operations in October, 2004 producing 21,521 ounces of gold at an operating cash cost of $192. In Burkina Faso, the feasibility study of the Mana project is completed with the objective to start mining operations. Furthermore, Semafo continues its exploration programs targeting the replacement of the extracted reserves of its operating mines, the discoveries of new structures and of new gold deposits.
Hence, Semafo’s development plan foresees the construction of a new mine in 2006, which will produce 100,000 ounces of gold in 2007 thus enabling Semafo to attain a yearly production reach 250,000 ounces of gold and to contribute to the improvement of its profitability.
