GSM Pioneer Joins Bluefish Technologies
Bernd Deutschmann, widely acknowledged to be one of the leading lights of the smart card industry has now officially joined SIM solutions provider Bluefish Technologies.
Having started his own software company in the early 1980`s Bernd`s work centred around pioneering the development of the world`s first microprocessor smart card with reusable memory; this is the technology at the core of all SIM cards in use today. Later he co-founded Orga Kartensysteme, formed to take advantage of the growing interest that the Banks and Telecoms companies were showing in smart card technology.
Bernd`s most significant achievement has been his contribution to the development of GSM. As a founding member of the SIM standardisation committee, his involvement led to the award, to Orga, of the first worldwide contract for GSM smart cards.
Bernd`s team was also responsible for the development of various SIM operating systems, test tools and billing systems, including pre-paid and eventually additional features like SIM updating Over The Air (OTA).
Bernd`s extensive knowledge of smart card applications is in many markets including banking, health, ID, and of course GSM. This will prove invaluable as Bluefish pioneers its virtual approach to SIM manufacture. As a co-founder of Bluefish and a member of the Main Board he will be responsible for investor relations and will be closely involved with strategic partnerships for the development of Value Added Services.
Notes for Editors:
Bluefish Technologies is a SIM solutions provider founded in 2000, with backing from ACG AG*, and is the only smart card supplier to focus entirely on the wireless telecommunications industry. With offices in Germany and the UK, and more to follow worldwide, Bluefish pioneers a "virtual" approach to SIM card production and draws upon over 150 years experience of the GSM sector.
SIM applications are currently in their infancy but are already a key differentiator and revenue generator for network operators. As mobile networks progress from providing predominantly voice based services (2G) towards third generation (3G) technology the nature of applications and services will change radically. It will be these SIM enabled applications at the heart of the wireless future, operating on open platforms with high levels of security. Visit www.bluefish-tech.com for further information.
*ACG AG is a high-tech broker for chips and smart cards and a market and technology leader for contactless chip applications. The company employs more than 400 people and has a presence at 32 international locations in 17 countries. In 2000 ACG achieved a preliminary turnover of 310 million Euro and a profit (EBITDA) of 11.7 million Euro.

Bluefish Announces SIM Platform
SIM card supplier Bluefish Technologies has announced that it will be using the Logos Smart Card operating system SIM iMP™ in part of its SIM product range. This will mean that Bluefish can now offer a wide range of SIM solutions from simple 8Kb cards through to more sophisticated secure multi-application environments.
Logos Smart Card, based in Denmark, and Bluefish are both part of ACG AG and have been working closely in order to make SIM iMP™ the operating system of choice for Bluefish`s SIM solutions. SIM iMP™ allows multiple applications to be loaded and run simultaneously, either during personalisation or via OTA (Over The Air) during operation. New applications can be added to the card, even when other applications have been previously loaded.
Fully SIM Toolkit compliant, SIM iMP™ is also designed for easy portability to new types of silicon, allowing Bluefish freedom of choice with regard to chip manufacturers. Porting to a new chip platform can take as little as four weeks.
"Working with Logos Smart Card and adopting SIM iMP™ has enabled us to pursue our `virtual` approach to SIM card supply. This allows us to choose both the chip platform and manufacturer independently and so provide our customers with the best possible service." Said Jon Twigg, Managing Director of Bluefish UK.
"Realising that committing to new business relationships represents a challenge, we are happy to say that the strategic alliance between Bluefish and Logos Smart Card has proven successful and is highly valued by our mutual customers. The cultures of the two companies complement each other perfectly, with a balanced focus in the short term, on fast customer service and in the long term, development of unique solutions." Said Mads Pii, Managing Director of Logos Smart Card.
